September 2021 Wrap Up and October TBR

Happy second day of October! I’m doing two posts in one today – my September 2021 wrap up and my tentative TBR for October. Tentative, because I never stick to my own plans.

I hope everyone had a nice September! I am actually really excited for October, and the months after. First my birthday is at the end of the month, and then we can start getting ready for Christmas! The past month I didn’t read a whole lot of books. I read five in total, one of which an ARC. BUT, three out of five books were very chunky adult fantasy books, so I’m proud, okay?? september 2021 wrap up

The Shadow of What was Lost

By James Islington

This was the first book I finished in September, and it took me a long time to get through it. It was definitely enjoyable, but I felt that sometimes the worldbuilding was a bit clunky. Even in the second half of the book, I still received new information about the world, and I think that should all be established in the first half. This made the book a little confusing at times for me. I picked up the sequel recently, though, so I’m definitely continuing the series!

Legacy of Steel

By Matthew Ward

Here’s the second chunky book I read in September. I really enjoy this series, but I feel like this sequel was less exciting than the first book. I think it’s because theres was little to no scheming at all, and that was one of my favorite parts of the first book. You can find my full review here! I’m super excited to get to Legacy of Light, though, because I have a theory and I just wanna know if I’m right. Alas, I have to wait for the paperback to come available.

Empire of the Vampire

By Jay Kristoff

This book will for sure make my top 10 reads of 2021. It was soooo good. I am not going to review it, because I turned off the part of my brain that’s capable of critical reading, so all I have to say about it is “Yes, book is good. Go read book.” I actually have two editions now; one UK edition, and one signed US edition. Couldn’t resist.

Lovely, Dark and Deep

By Claudia Cain

Lovely, Dark and Deep was the ARC I read last month. This cover isn’t the final cover, so beware of that. I’ve read and reviewed Claudia Cain’s work before, all the way at the beginning of my blogging journey! It’s so nice that she still remembers me and asked me to read this book, too. I’m holding off on positing my review until we’re closer to the pub date, but know that I very much enjoyed this book, and that I could hardly put it down!

The Bronzed Beasts

By Roshani Chokshi

Here’s one of my most anticipated 2021 releases that I finally was able to read! It only just came out, so I’m proud of myself for picking it up so soon. Overall I really enjoyed this book. I love the characters so much, and the dynamics between Enrique, Zofia, and Hypnos are especially my favorite. But, I did find out with this book that I do not like the time skip trope. So that’s my only gripe with the story. Seriously recommend this series though!

My October TBR

And lastly, here is my tentative TBR for this month!

  • We Free the Stars by Hafsah Faizal (reading this now)
  • Horrid by Katrina Leno
  • Kingdom of the Cursed by Kerri Maniscalco
  • Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson
  • Once Upon a Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber
  • Thronebreakers by Rebecca Coffindaffer

  • Quite an ambitious list for someone who has consistently been reading five books a month lately. And I also want to squeeze in some spooky books, but where and which ones? I do not know. Wish me luck.

And that’s it for my September 2021 wrap up and October TBR! How many books did you read in September? Did you find any new favorites? Let me know down below!
