WWW Wednesday – Little Changes

Happy Wednesday everyone! I’ve finally found motivation to do more WWW Wednesdays, but my reading has taken a tumble. So unfortunately, not a lot has changed since last week’s post. But I still want to talk to you about books!

WWW Wednesday is hosted by Taking on a World of Books, and all you need to do is answer these three questions:little changes

– What are you currently reading?
– What did you recently finish reading?
– And what do you think you’ll read next?

Like I said, there are little changes compared to last week, but I finished ONE book, so yay me!

What I’m Currently Reading

Dog Whistle Politics: how coded racial appeals have reinvented racism & wrecked the middle class

By Ian Haney López

Hello, yes, deja vu. I’m still reading this one, but it’s slow going because I’m also reading like ten other books and papers for my thesis. Like I said last time though, this will likely be the only one I’ll read cover to cover. The language is very clear and easy to understand, and I’m enjoying reading about topics I didn’t know much about before. I definitely recommend this book if you’re interested in learning how language can be coded and used for or against a certain group of people.

Son of the Storm

By Suyi Davies Okungbowa

Expected publication: 11 May 2021

I got this one as an ARC via NetGalley and am slowly reading it. I think Orbit likes me because they keep approving my requests. No complaints there, because I don’t think Orbit is capable of publishing bad books. Anyway, this one doesn’t seem like a very fast-paced book, but that’s okay. There’s been a lot of world building so far, though. It definitely demands my full attention, because the whole society system is somewhat complicated in that there are different castes and they all have different names. I am very intrigued, though. Definitely hope to finish this one this week so I can get my review up for you all!

What I Recently Finished

Call Down the Hawk

By Maggie Stiefvater

This is the only book I finished since last week, and I really enjoyed it! I bought it when I still lived in the US, so you can imagine how long this one has been gathering dust on my shelves… Anyway, there was lots of mystery in this book, and I could hardly stop turning the pages. I love that the other Lynch brothers play a bigger role in this book as well, because in the original Raven Cycle they were just kinda there. Mister Impossible comes out super soon, and I’m really excited about it. I can already feel that shit is about to get even more real in this sequel.

What I’ll Read Next

Take a Hint, Dani Brown

By Talia Hibbert

Last week I said I would read this book next, but obviously that didn’t happen, so I’ll try again this time! Like I said, little changes. Son of the Storm took precedence because it’s an ARC and it comes out in less than a month already. Nevertheless, I really want to read Take a Hint, Dani Brown soon, because I am craving more contemporary romance! As it turns out, light and fluffy books are my jam after all, who would’ve thought. Unfortunately, my thesis is still a priority so who knows if I’ll actually end up picking this one up before my next update…

And that’s it for today’s WWW Wednesday! Tell me about the books you’re currently reading or just finished. Were they good? Would you recommend them to a friend? Let me know!
