The Most Detestable Book Villains

Happy Friday everyone! It’s the day before my birthday, and starting tomorrow I’m officially moving toward my late twenties. Help. Since we can’t do a lot over here, I’m planning on spending the day eating junkfood and playing video games.

But before that, we still have two days of Blogtober to go! Last week, I made a post about the most lovable book villains, and promised you the opposite this week. So here it is! A list of the most detestable book villains I could think of.

I personally love villains that you can love, and villains you can hate. Especially the most horrible ones fascinate me. They’re often so complex and interesting. Like, what made you such as horrible person? So I secretly think that I like very horrible villains more than the lovable ones.detestable villains detestable villains

Manizheh

The Daevabad Trilogy by S.A Chakraborty

Where Manizheh was at first just a vague name at the beginning of the series, she quickly became the main villain near the end of book 2. I think she’s such a complex and interesting character to read about. But also definitely a bitch. I get where she’s coming from, but her means definitely do not justify the end.

The Golden Compass book cover

Mrs. Coulter

His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman

I read this series years and years ago, but I remember that Mrs. Coulter gave me the creeps. She seems so innocent and caring at first. Plus, she’s glamorous and wealthy, and looks like everything a young girl would want to be. Too bad she’s actually evil. I mean, splitting children from their daemons in the name of science? Sounds incredibly unethical to me.
The Witches book cover

The main witch

The Witches by Roald Dahl

Do you remember reading this book as a child? Or worse, seeing the movie? The movie scared the crap out of me because suddenly things that I just imagined based on words became real visuals. That’s why I have no issue reading scary books, but hate scary movies. Anyway. All the witches in this book were horrible, purely evil creatures, and the main witch definitely takes the cake.

Harry Potter book cover

Dolores Umbridge

Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

I obviously couldn’t make this list without including Umbridge. I’m fairly sure she’s more hated than Voldemort is. Which is kind of funny, because Voldemort shows up in every book except for the third. But Umbridge shows up once or twice and manages to become more hated than the main villain. Probably because all of us have had an Umbrdige-type teacher at some points in our lives. Reading about her genuinely made me mad every time.

Like half the characters

A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin

I couldn’t choose just one character from this series. There are so many that I absolutely despised. I hated Joffrey because he’s a little shit, and later I hated Cersei because she’s honestly quite evil. But I also hated Ramsey Bolton, Craster, and Walder Frey. Because they’re all gross. There are so many more characters in this series that are just so unlikable. And I haven’t even seen the show, but I know there are more unlikable characters that haven’t made it into the books… yet.
