Happy Sunday everyone! I’m currently cry-laughing because I thought it hadn’t been that long since I did a Six for Sunday post. Well… The last time was May 2020 lmao. My perception of time is truly atrocious.
Anyway, Six for Sunday is hosted by A Little But A Lot, and you can find all the prompts for upcoming Six for Sundays on her blog!snakes
Today’s prompt is: books with snakes on the cover or in the title! So snakes are apparently all the rage in YA world right now, so there’s an abundance of books to choose from. I personally see nothing wrong with the book snake, because snakes are dope.
Serpent & Dove
By Shelby Mahurin
I’m getting a two for one deal with this one. That is, if we count synonyms for “snake” lol. This cover is so pretty, but I’ve honestly never really paid much attention to it until now. Obviously I knew about the snake, and that it’s all black and gold, but I didn’t quite realize how detailed the background is. I could of course add Blood & Honey and Gods & Monsters, too, but that feels like cheating.
Kingdom of the Wicked
By Kerri Maniscalco
I think this is my favorite book snake, because it looks so ready to attack. All other book snakes are just kind of “there.” But not this one, this one will kill a bitch. Honestly I think this entire cover is just so pretty. It was also one of my favorite reads from last year! Its sequel, Kingdom of the Cursed, doesn’t have a snake on it, though.
Girl, Serpent, Thorn
By Melissa Bashardoust
I love this cover sooo much. The entire color scheme is just very “me.” Got a two for one deal with this book, too! Have you read it yet? It’s a shortish standalone book inspired by Persian folklore, and I really enjoyed it. It’s a very different story from what I’m used to with YA books. Definitely would recommend, but if you want to know more, you can read my review here!
The Queen of Nothing
By Holly Black
Obviously I also had to add The Queen of Nothing, even though this snake is barely there. If you have read The Queen of Nothing I really want to hear your thoughts. I loved The Cruel Prince and The Wicked King, but The Queen of Nothing was just okay in my opinion. I feel like it could’ve been fleshed out a bit more.
Ninth House
By Leigh Bardugo
I can’t believe I almost forgot about Ninth House. Well, actually I can believe it, since I don’t have a physical copy. I hope we get some news about Ninth House 2 soon, because I can feel myself aging while waiting for it. It has been a year and a half since Ninth House came out, which actually isn’t that long ago… I’m just very impatient.
Three Dark Crowns
By Kendare Blake
The snake on this cover is a little less obvious, but she’s there on the bottom crown. All four books in this series actually features a snake. I love all the covers in this series, and how all three types of magic are represented each time. I really enjoyed how dark this series was. Though I thought the last book was somewhat disappointing.
That’s it for today’s Six for Sunday! All the books featured in this list are ones I own and have read. I hope to participate in Six for Sunday more often now!
