Do you have that one book or series that you only want to read in a particular season? Maybe it’s a particular genre? When I was younger I used to read a lot more contemporary, but only in the summer. Now every time fall rolls around, I get the itch to read spooky and dark books. So I thought I’d make a little list of my favorite fall reads!
Harry Potter
If you follow me on bookstagram you know that I’ve been posting a little extra Harry Potter lately. I’ve also been wanting to reread the entire series and that happens pretty much every fall. I think it’s because every Potterhead seems to wake up from a deep slumber as soon as September 1st draws near, and you can see Harry Potter themes posts everywhere. I’m definitely not complaining about this though, this series will always remain magical for me!
House of Salt and Sorrows
I read this book in August, but honestly it’s a really good book to read in the fall. It’s a murder mystery with a dash of paranormal, and just the right amount of spooky! I believe that this book even takes places around the end of summer/beginning of fall, which makes it even more perfect! I also loved the sea-setting and dark cliffs. It truly made me want to curl up in my bed and get all cozy! House of Salt and Sorrows was an unexpected surprise for me, I really really loved it.
The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings
I’ll be honest, I’ve only read the Hobbit. One day I’ll read the Lord of the Rings, I swear! Anyway the point is I love reading epic fantasy books in the fall. Curling up in bed or in a cozy chair with a cup of tea, maybe some lit candles, and let’s go on that epic quest! These books are classics, and I think they’re perfect for fall! Maybe I’ll actually get around to reading the Lord of the Rings this year?
Three Dark Crowns series
This entire series always reminds me of dark clouds and stormy weather for some reason. But that’s why I do think this is a great series to read in the fall! The last book came out in September, so right in time! I’m actually pretty sure that I’ve read all the books in the early fall, so maybe I just subconsciously associate the series with fall? Either way, if you haven’t read the Three Dark Crowns series yet but are planning to, I’d recommend lighting some candles, getting cozy, and reading the books soon!
The Stalking Jack the Ripper Series
Murder mysteries, Victorian times, and an epic female MC? Give it to meee! This series is so perfect for fall. The setting is amazing in all the books, and despite the scientific themes, the stories are magical. I recently bought Capturing the Devil, and I haven’t read it yet, but I’m hoping to finish it before the season ends!
