May 2022 Reading Wrap Up

Happy Tuesday everyone! Can you believe May is almost over already? Time goes by so fast sometimes, especially in these summer months. I did not read a whole lot this month, partially because I am on a near-three week vacation to the United States! Currently residing near Washington D.C., and I’m trying to fit reliving five years of living here in a couple of days.

I read a mere four books this month, three fantasies and one non-fiction out of all things. I’m currently not exactly in a reading slump, but there are so many books I’m excited for that I end up reading none of them. A good while ago I had a bunch of books shipped to my friend in the U.S., and I decided to grab Gods of Jade and Shadow as my next read. Currently almost halfway through, and enjoying the vibes and history in that one a lot. may 2022 reading wrap up may 2022 reading wrap up

Anyway, let’s see which books I read the past month!

Only a Monster

By Vanessa Len

Only a Monster was one of the books I bought when I finally went to a bookstore again. I have no regrets buying it at all! Really enjoyed this story, even though the MC was a lot younger than what I’m used to nowadays. That definitely made for some peak teenager moments that made me roll my eyes, but I have to remember I’m not the target audience here.

Anyway, I thought the concept of time travel by taking years from humans a very original concept, and I am really excited for the next book because I need to see more of Joan and Aaron. But I’m also hoping that there will be more development to the characters in the next books to come.

Lodestar

By Shannon Messenger

I finally decided to continue this series! I had had the first two books in the series for a very long time, but of course I wanted the hardcovers for the rest too. Except… I kept on not buying them. Finally bit the bullet and ordered three of them. Hopefully I won’t wait this long when buying the rest of the series, because I am having a lot of fun with it.

Like always, I completely sped through the book. The plot was clear, and nearly every chapter’s end made me want to read just a bit more. Cue me reading for hours and finishing this book in a matter of days. Lots of stuff is going on, and I do recommend reading a summary of the previous book if it’s been a while since you read it.

Daughter of the Moon Goddess

By Sue Lynn Tan

Daughter of the Moon Goddess is one that had been on my TBR since before it came out, and I will fully admit that the cover is at least partially to blame. But I mean, look at it!! It’s so prettyyyy. Thankfully, I enjoyed the inside of the book just as much as the outside. I love reading about myths and legends, and the legend of Chang’e is one of my favorites, so I really enjoyed this take on the story. For once the time jump trope did not bother me at all, and I am very excited to read the next book.

Out There

By Sue Michael Wall

And finally, I read a non-fiction. Since I’ve been reading a lot more sci-fi, I’ve become more and more interested in space and the physics surrounding it. I never enjoyed physics class in high school (mostly because I was bad at it), so I am honestly surprising myself here. I have been very slowly reading my way through Michio Kaku’s Parallel Worlds, but it’s a lot to grasp, so I decided to squeeze in this one. Out There is a lot easier to understand: it uses lots of metaphors and Wall inserts pop culture moments often. It’s also not a big book, and his questions surrounding potential alien life are answered quite clearly. So yes, this was a fun and understandable non-fiction to read for me!

Pages Read

  • Only a Monster – 403
  • Lodestar – 676
  • Daughter of the Moon Goddess – 494
  • Out There – 234

That brings my total up to 1807 pages! Not as many as I would usually read, but again, I am on vacation and this is not the relaxing and do nothing kind. I will pick up the pace when I get back! I am fairly sure I am still ahead on my reading goals anyway. I haven’t updated my Goodreads in a good while, but I’ve been keeping track on my Story Graph page!

Books Bought

Would you believe me if I said zero? Because it’s true! I did not buy a single book this month. Which was wise, because I am spending so much money on food at the moment. DC is expensive. But, I will be going to Barnes & Noble at some point soon, so at least I’ll have some new books to show you in June.

And that’s it for my May 2022 reading wrap up! I hope everyone had a good reading month. Let me know what your favorite of the month was?
