July Wrap Up – What Even is Reading??

Happy August everyone! Today I’m officially in the U.S. for five years. Two more weeks and I’m out. Time seriously has flown at lightning speed.

july wrap up

In July I wanted to read more physical books because at the end of the month all of them would be packed up and shipped to The Netherlands. I won’t have my books back for months, probably, so I really had to read what I still had on my shelves.

I failed spectacularly.

This month I only read four books! Which, granted, is not bad. Could be way worse. But I really did want to read more than that. Oh well, at least that makes for a short July Wrap Up post!

My Rating: ★★★★★

So I didn’t read a whole lot, but what I did read was really good. The Empire of Gold is my highest rated book of the month, and also my favorite! What I love about the entire Daevabad trilogy is that I literally never knew what was going to happen next, making the series full of surprises. I thought the Empire of Gold was a really solid ending to what has become one of my favorite trilogies ever! I highyly, highly recommend it.

My Rating: ★★★★☆

Reading Girl, Serpent, Thorn right after finishing The Empire of Gold was honestly a great decision. Even though the stories are absolutely nothing alike, the mythology in both stories is sometimes similar. If you’ve read the Daevabad trilogy, you’ll know about the Ifrit called Aeshma. Well, Aeshma makes an appearance in this book too! Overall I really enjoyed this book, but I wish it could’ve been longer. You can find my full review of Girl, Serpent, Thorn here!

My Rating: ★★★★☆

I read The Beautiful in June, and I found out right after that that the sequel would be out in July! Lucky me! I enjoyed The Beautiful enough to pick up The Damned, and I’m glad I did. The Damned really does world building a lot better. The first book is fairly vague, but the second book no longer dances around the point. I actually have a full review of The Damned right here for ya! Or if you’re not quite ready for that yet, I also have a review for The Beautiful here!

My Rating: ★★★★☆

So I finished The Damned on July 16 and that’s where the trouble began. I read three books in 16 days, so I thought I could do that again for the second half of July, right? WRONG. I don’t know why it took me two whole weeks to finish this relatively small book. Moving stress, probably. But there were days I didn’t even read at all. Either way, I definitely did enjoy it. I’m really liking the Dresden Files, and I’m starting to think I can count on these books to drag me away from the edge of a reading slump. A new book in the series just came out, so I’m hoping to steadily make my way through the rest of the series this year so I can read it!

And that’s it for my July Wrap Up! Not a long list of books, but definitely a list of good books. Which is all I’m asking for, to be honest. What was your favorite read of the month?
