Fae Friday: things that annoy me while reading

It’s the first Friday of May, yay! And that means it’s time for Fae Friday again. This week we’re talking about things that annoy us while reading.

Fae Friday is a weekly tag hosted by Caffeinated Fae. Go to her page for all the future prompts! Faeries can be real pests sometimes, so this post will cover various annoyances I encounter while reading. This prompt was created by Kimberly at Caffeinated PR, so be sure to visit her page! The funny thing is, I’ve already made a post a few months ago about all my bookish pet peeves, so it’s time to think of more things that annoy me!

Where my old post focused on books and the outside world, this post will focus on the contents. I’m always annoyed by spelling or grammatical errors in books. I know the occasional mishap can happen, but when there are so many that it’s distracting me from the story, we have a problem.

Another things that’s bound to annoy me is annoying characters. That one’s kind of obvious. But some characters are just so annoying I want to rip my hair out. This happens especially with characters that are overly whiny, have a victim complex, a “I’m the only one who can do this, so I don’t need your help” complex, or are sassy/sarcastic to the point that it’s childish instead of funny. Maybe this is all a sign that I’m getting old… I always prefer good characters over plot, so when I don’t relate to most of the characters, or I just don’t like them there’s a good chance I’ll DNF the book.

That’s it for today! What annoys you the most while reading? Do you relate to the things that bug me while reading?

Ooo! I get that! Spelling errors definitely irk me. Whiny characters and hero complex characters definitely drive me bonkers too.
