Happy Fae Friday everyone! I hope everyone made it through the week alright. I’m still heavily procrastinating on the final two papers I need to write… But writing blog posts is just so much more fun, ya know?
Today’s Fae Friday prompt shines a spotlight on our favorite secondary characters. Faeries have been known to stand back and observe from time to time, so the prompt is: what secondary character is your favorite or even outshines the main character? Upon reading this prompt, two characters immediately came to mind…
Zuzana – Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy by Laini Taylor
Zuzana has to be one of my favorite secondary characters, ever! I don’t think she outshone the main character, Karou, but her presence was so fun. I loved the interactions between Karou and Zuzanna in the first book of this trilogy, and after the plot unfolded I really hoped they would stay friends throughout the series. Thankfully I was not disappointed in that regard, and we got chapters from her perspective, yay! She’s funny, sarcastic at the right moments, and overall just really cool. I would totally be friends with her in real life. There is a novella out about her and Mik called Night of Cake and Puppets, but unfortunately I haven’t had the chance yet to read it.
Kenji – The Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi
Okay, and now a secondary character that outshines literally every other character in the series. I love Kenji so much, I even have a candle with his name on it. It smells like blood orange and is totally fantastic. Anyway, I seems to like the “comedic relief” characters the most, so it makes sense Kenji is one of my favorites. Especially because, well… no one else in this series is funny, really. I love the series, though! But honestly, Adam was kind of boring and Juliette at one point became kind of annoying. But I could always rely on Kenji! I’m planning to read Imagine Me soon, to see where this whole story finally ends. I really enjoyed Restore Me and Defy Me, and I’m glad the series got expanded, because I always felt it was incomplete with just the first three books.

Yes!! I especially recommend the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy. It’s an awesome fantasy with lots of twists. And the first book takes place in Prague which I think is really cool.
