Hello book friends! Typing 2022 felt so weird… I still sometimes catch myself wanting to type 2020, which is ??? Time goes by too fast and I’m doing a terrible job keeping up. Anyway, I always make a little post about which books I still want to read before the new year starts, so here it is!
I’ve already read so many more books this year than I normally do. I’m currently around 70 books read, whereas normally I read about 50 per year. You’d think that my physical TBR has thus gone down a bit, but noooo. It has not. I still have a ton of books I want to read before the new year starts, and many of them are books that either just came out or are still appearing in a bookstore near you! read before 2022
So let’s see which ones I just have to read before 2022.
Cytonic
By Brandon Sanderson
Here’s another one I’ve been waiting forever on. The blurb doesn’t give a whole lot away; it’s more of a tiny summary of what happened so far. To be honest, I’m going to need a really good extensive summary of book 1 and 2 before diving into Cytonic. Or do a reread. But… I don’t really feel like doing a reread. So here’s to hoping I can find a good summary!
A Memory Called Empire
By Arkady Martine
This one has been out since 2019, but I only bought it a few months ago. And well, I still haven’t read it. I’ve been meaning to read more science fiction this year, and I’m kinda succeeding? I feel like I’ve read more sci-fi, but it’s by no means been a whole lot. I really want to read this before 2022 though, because it has a lot of things I enjoy in a book: intrigue, murder mystery, and secrets.
Legacy of Light
By Matthew Ward
This one came out in August, and I have just finished reading the previous book, Legacy of Steel. I’ve been really enjoying this series, which is great, because aside from more sci-fi, I also wanted to read more adult novels in general. On that front I have been succeeding. Legacy of Light is the final book in the Legacy trilogy and I’m very excited to see how it all ends!
Kingdom of the Cursed
By Kerri Maniscalco
You’ve probably seen this one in my most anticipated releases post for this month. I read Kingdom of the Wicked via NetGalley as well, so again I had to wait over a year for the sequel. I swear I deserve some kind of patience award or something. All jokes aside, I’m really excited for this book. I highly enjoyed Kingdom of the Wicked and that ending really made me want to read the sequel immediately.
Vespertine
By Margaret Rogerson
This one I’m also super excited about. It only just came out, so I can’t feel too bad yet about not having read it yet. But I want to get to it ASAP. I think it’s going to be a perfect book to read this month. This one apparently isn’t a complete standalone, but it does have its own plot and ending. I always want more books set in the worlds that Rogerson comes up with, so I’m taking this is great news even though I haven’t even read the book yet. I wonder what the next book will be about then?
She Who Became the Sun
By Shelley Parker-Chan
This one I actually already own but… I heard it gets sad. And I don’t want to be sad, so I haven’t read it yet. But I do want to read it this year! It’s one of my most anticipated 2021 releases, so of course I have to read it. So when I do finally read it, you will of course be getting a review, so stay tuned.
Thronebreakers
By Rebecca Coffindaffer
Now this is one I am 100% sure I’ll read this month (uhm, if I get a copy, that is). I read Crownchasers in less than 24 hours because it was just so entertaining. I have no doubt that Thronebreakers will be exactly the same. This series has been so fun so far, and I am forever sad it’s only a duology.
An Echo of Things to Come
By James Islington
I read the first book in this series, The Shadow of What was Lost, last month, and quite enjoyed it. Complicated at times, but I liked the characters a lot. So I want to read this sequel preferably this year still. Partly because I am trying to finish complete series within a reasonable amount of time, and partly because I know that if I wait too long to pick it up I will forgot everything that happened in the first book..
And that’s it! I have many more books I want to read soonish, but the ones in this post are my priority reads. I hope to get to all of them, but we’ll see what happens. I am still a mood reader, so I can plan all I want but that doesn’t mean anything lol. Which books must you absolutely read before 2022? Let me know!
I haven’t heard of any of these books before, but now I am intrigued and will be adding a number of these to my own TBR. The books I want to read before 2022 are Thrawn: Alliances by Timothy Zahn, Delusions of Grandma by Carrie Fisher, Life and Limb by Jennifer Roberson, and Warcraft: War of the Ancients trilogy by Richard Knaak.
