Time for another life update! A good while ago I posted a life update in which I announced I would be moving back to the Netherlands by myself to pursue grad school. Well, I’m here now and I’ve got things to say.
By now it’s almost been a month since I left the United States, almost two since posting my first life update! It’s crazy that time seems to go so slow and yet so fast at the same time. I actually always feel like as soon as you’ve survived January, the months fly by. Thank god for that too, because I’ll admit I’m a little homesick, haha.
First, let me tell you about my arrival. Leaving the United States was absolutely not a good time, because saying goodbye is hard. Even if you know it’s not forever. My mom, brother, and my closest friends + boyfriend all came to say goodbye, which was awesome. But many tears were shed (all of us are sympathy criers, so the place was flooded).
Thankfully my dad was on the other side of the pond to pick me up. It’s also there that I learned that my living arrangements were not quite as settled as I thought they were… Remember this from my last life update:
“Where will I live? At my uncle’s apartment, thank god. I’m so not in the mood for roommates, haha.”

Well….. Let’s just say I’m not currently living in my uncle’s apartment. The place was not what it was supposed to be and I felt horrible the entire time. Essentially, I moved again. This time I decided to move to my old hometown. It’s a lot further away from my university in terms of distance, but travel time with public transport is about the same (don’t ask me how that’s possible, because I have no clue).
Anyway, point is, this place is a hell of a lot better for me. I have enough space to put my stuff, and after living out of my suitcase for two weeks that feels awesome. Everything works like it’s supposed to and it’s always nice and warm inside. I even have a roommate! And all my friends from high school live close by, too!
Other than that, grad school is going well, too. It’s only week two now, so aside from doing my readings I haven’t done much yet. There are a lot of readings though. Not sure if I’ll even have time for “for fun” books this semester.
But with all of that said, I also can’t wait to go back to the United States. My family will be moving back to NL at the end of this summer, so I’m going to spend as much time as possible on the other side of the pond. Thankfully my classes end mid-May, so I can go for about three whole months!
